by Tom McKinney

Friday evening's high school basketball matchup between Hoke and Lumberton will bring together two teams that are both eagerly looking for their first win of the 2007-2008 season. Lumberton has been defeated by both Richmond and Scotland, while Hoke has lost twice to E.E. Smith. The two teams will square off at 7:30 pm at Lumberton High School.

The Hoke Fighting Buck's leading scorer, Antoine McGregor, may cause headaches for the Lumberton Pirates. McGregor scored 10 points on the road against a talented E.E. Smith team, followed by 26 points in the rematch game when E.E. Smith visited Hoke High School.

Lumberton's loss to Scotland was a road game played at Laurinburg on Wednesday evening. Scotland was ahead at halftime, 30-21, and finished strong with a convincing 62-44 victory over the Pirates.

Against Scotland, Lumberton's Taurian Brown scored 15 points, while James Floyd added 10 points, Stargell Love had 5 points, Jessy Scott scored 4 points, and Justin Troy added 3 points. Also, Kaweakai Leach, Deonte Rogers, and Devonte Davis each scored 2 points, while John McRae had 1 point.
