Lumberton Girls Basketball drops opening game
Richmond's zone defense slows down the Pirates
by Tom McKinney
The Lumberton High School girls basketball team dropped their first game of the season to the Richmond Raiders, 47-41, in Lumberton on Tuesday evening. Richmond had already played one game and improved their season record to 2-0 with their victory over Lumberton.
Richmond's zone defense slowed down Lumberton's offense and seemed to take away the Pirates advantage in quickness. Richmond jumped out to an early lead in the game, but a flurry of steals by Lumberton's Jenae Parker helped to give the Pirates the lead at halftime, 24-17.
