by Tom McKinney

The Lumberton Girls team (1-1) will try to make it two wins in a row tonight after Wednesday's 61-54 victory over Scotland, while the Hoke Girls (2-0) will try to remain undefeated.

Hoke's Shamia Brown is averaging 28 points per game after the Fighting Buck's first two wins, both against E.E. Smith of Fayetteville. Lumberton will need to find some way to slow her down to gain their first home victory of the 2007-2008 season.

After the win against Scotland on Wednesday, Lumberton Head Coach Danny Graham said that the Pirates "pressure defense" had improved.

Lumberton scoring has been balanced with several players scoring in double figures against Scotland. Jalisa Baxely (12) scored 18 points, Janae Parker (14) had 14 points, and Jensine Alvarez (34) added 11 points. In addition, Simone Floyd (10) scored 6 points, Leandra Oxendine (20) had 6 points, and Crystal Oxendine (40), Brandi McCoy (42), and Shaneakque Bostic (50) each scored two points.

Friday evening's matchup will begin at 6:00 pm at Lumberton High School.
