Lumberton bounces back with 12-2 win

(LaGrange, Georgia) - It only took four innings for NC (Lumberton Nationals) to defeat Georgia 12-2 in the 2nd round of the 53rd Annual Dixie Youth World Series. Lumberton jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the 1st inning as 14 batters came to the plate. Lumberton used five hits and five walks to build a lead they would never relinquish. In the bottom of the 4th inning, with Lumberton leading 9-2, Raleigh Forrest and Austin Swiderski both walked and advanced to second and third base on a grounder to the pitcher by Lumberton's Nolan Thomas. With two outs, Hunter Barfield crushed a 1-1 pitch over the left center field fence to give Lumberton a 12-2 victory (ten run mercy rule applies). With the win, North Carolina (Lumberton) will face Tennessee (Goodlettsville) at 5:30 pm on Wednesday in 3rd round play. The winner of Wednesday's game will advance to the 4th round.

Lumberton's Daniel Oxendine pitched two innings of no-hit ball. Lumberton's Evan Odom followed with two innings of pitching with only two hits allowed. The leading batters for Lumberton included Raleigh Forrest, who batted 2 for 2, Daniel Oxendine 1 for 3 with 2 RBI’s, Hunter Barfield 1 for 3 with a home run and 3 RBI’s, Nolan Thomas 1 for 3 with 2 RBI’s, C.J. Locklear 1 for 1 with 2 RBI's, and Gage Hardin 1 for 2 with a double.
