Storm Halts Baseball Game!

With the score dramatically tied at two runs apiece in the 5th inning, a thunderstorm suddenly interrupted the matchup between Lumberton and West Robeson in the Dixie Youth AAA state tournament. West Robeson had just scored a run to tie the game and was threatening to score again with the bases loaded. As shown in the video above, the sudden lightening caused a gasp from spectators and prompted officials to quickly clear the field.

Lumberton jumped ahead 2-0 in the 1st inning on runs scored by Caulder and Swiderski, with an RBI for Thorndyke. Pitching and defense held the West Robeson batters in check for the first three innings. West Robeson finally scored a run in the fourth inning and added a second run in the top of the fifth. With the bases loaded and one out, they appeared well positioned to add more runs, but the quick appearance of lightening postponed the action.
